Police investigating unexplained death at HMS Raleigh

A Royal Navy recruit sadly passed away during training at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint

The Devon Air Ambulance responded to the incident in Torpoint on Tuesday, 11 March.

A significant emergency response was reported in the area at the time.

A  38-year-old man was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene.

The Health and Safety Executive are investigating alongside the police.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"Police are investigating an unexplained death which occurred at HMS Raleigh on Tuesday 11 March. 
Emergency services were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man who had suffered a suspected medical episode.
A 38-year-old man was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and enquiries remain ongoing alongside the Health and Safety Executive."

The Royal Navy have also confirmed that they are also carrying out their own investigation.

A Royal Navy spokesperson said:

"It is with great sadness that we can confirm that a member of the Royal Navy died at HMS Raleigh following routine training on Tuesday, March 11.
Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected at this sad time. 
An investigation into the circumstances will take place and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time".
