A person has tragically died after being hit by a GWR train travelling to Plymouth today Wednesday 26 February.
The serious incident closed busy lines between Westbury and Swindon and saw several rush hour services cancelled.
According to news website Wiltshire 999s, the train involved was travelling between London Paddington and Plymouth.
South Western Ambulance Service have confirmed that the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance rushed to the scene along side a land ambulance, an operations officer, and a doctor.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:
“Officers were called to the line near Pewsey railway station at around 2pm today (26 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
GWR has confirmed that delays are expected to be in place until 5pm today and are urging passengers to check before travelling.
