Plymouth drivers faced delays today due to a huge crackdown checkpoint setup in a carpark off Union Street.
The joint operation involved Devon and Cornwall Police, DVSA, Plymouth City Council and their bailiff.
Authorities were selecting vehicles heading out of the city and pulling them into a nearby carpark to carry out thorough checks.

Not only were the police and DVSA involved in the checkpoint but Civil Enforcement Officers from Plymouth City Council and their bailiff were present, attempting to recover unpaid parking charges.
Vehicles with bald tyres or no MOT certificates and drivers without insurance or who were unlicensed were caught out.
Speaking to Plymouth Plus, Sgt Clare Moore who heads up the neighbourhood support team told us:
“Today we are carrying out routine stop checks with our partner agencies. Road related crime and road safety is one of our main issues and we are working with our partner agencies to ensure that vehicles in this area are safe and not committing any offences."

The police also used a mobile CCTV van equipped with state-of-the-art technology in addition to 4 other police vehicles as part of the checkpoint.
