Major fire on Prince Maurice Road in Plymouth

A large fire has erupted on Prince Maurice Road in Plymouth this evening, with multiple emergency crews on the scene and thick smoke visible across the city.

Two buildings are currently ablaze at a new housing development close to Lipson Road.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing large flames and heavy smoke just after 6:30pm, prompting a flood of emergency calls to Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.

What we know so far:

  • Two derelict new build homes are well alight with fire breaking through roofs and windows.
  • The fire is centred near the Prince Maurice Road and Coleridge Road area.
  • Crews from Greenbank, Crownhill, Camels Head, Plymstock, Plympton, Saltash, and Callington are in attendance.
  • Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and water jets to bring the situation under control.
  • Road closures are in place on Prince Maurice Road and Coleridge Road.
  • Residents nearby are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
