Plymouth Plus has uncovered the exact cause behind today's huge water cuts, affecting 13,000 properties across Plymouth.
A burst outlet main at South West Water's Dousland water treatment site means that no treated water can currently be distributed to properties within its supply.
The Dousland Water Treatment Works takes untreated water from local reservoirs and processes it through filtration, chemical treatment, and sterilisation stages.

After purification, clean drinking water is pumped directly into the water mains network, providing thousands of homes and businesses across Plymouth and surrounding areas with water.
A spokesperson for South West Water has confirmed to Plymouth Plus that the issue originates at the Dousland Water Treatment Works.

The burst outlet main means treated water cannot currently leave the facility. As a result, homes in postcodes PL6, PL19, PL20, and parts of PL7 are experiencing complete outages or reduced water pressure.
South West Water engineers continue working on the complicated repairs at the site this afternoon. No clear timeline for water restoration has been confirmed.

Bottled water is available for collection at George Park and Ride (PL6 7HB) and Bere Alston Bowling Club (PL20 7DZ) until 10pm.
