Boy arrested after suspected arson at abandoned Plymouth nightclub

Plymouth Plus can reveal that a boy under 16 has been arrested on suspicion of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The arrest comes after the huge fire at the abandoned Nations nightclub on Union Street in Plymouth on Saturday 1 March.

Up to 40 firefighters tackled the blaze which they described as ‘challenging’, with fire crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service assisting Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Updating us on the ongoing police investigation, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"Officers are investigating a suspected arson at a derelict property on Union Street, Plymouth.
Police were called at around 4.30pm to reports of a fire on Saturday 1 March. Officers attended to assist with road closures. Police are investigating and treating the fire as suspected arson.
A boy aged under 16 has since been arrested on suspicion of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered. He’s been released under investigation.
Enquiries are ongoing".
